S & B rebound with confident 4-1 win
First team report vs Alderley Edge, Nov. 19th 2019
After the previous week’s demolition at the hands of champions Warrington, S&B’s first team bounced back against mid-table neighbours Alderley Edge with spectators treated to a string of high quality victories by the home side. A 4-1 win left our team safely above the drop zone. Brian Birch reports.
First on court, playing at five, S&B's Howard Nuttall faced Richard Ingle. With Howard's vast experience we were confident of a good result, but after two games the match was finely balanced at one apiece. Surely there wasn’t going to be an upset? Any home concerns were quickly allayed as our player took control to comfortably win the next two games and give S&B a good start to the fixture.

Meanwhile on Court 2 Arron Ken had a tough contest against talented junior Muhammad Khan. Arron took an early lead in a close, high intensity game, yet the visiting junior was calm under pressure and won the next two games. Game four was decided with a tie break which went to Khan.

S&B's number three Lucas Hughes was next on the glass back playing James Pickles. Every point in this match was hard fought with extended deep-court rallies which rarely finished in a drop shot. Lucas won the first, then saved three game points to take game two. The third game continued with Pickles digging deep trying to gain a foothold. But despite his opponent making every point a battle, Lucas was too good and ran out the victor. Result S&B win 3 -0 Score: 11/7 13/11 11/7
The final match featured number one players S&B's Kyle Finch and Alderley Edge's highly talented Adam Turner in a great finale to an evening of high quality squash. Kyle won the first two games with both players showing their supreme ability. Turner then capitalised on mistakes by Finch and fought back to 2-2, taking the match into a deciding fifth game. The S&B man managed to cut out the errors and was too good as Turner faded under pressure.
